This year marks the anniversary of one of cinemas most charismatic, glamorous and exotic actresses. Someone who, despite very humble beginnings in her birth country of Poland, rose to prominence and became a beloved icon worldwide: Miss Pola Negri.
Next month is the one hundredth anniversary of the death of Boleslaw Prus. Seen as one of the greatest – to some the greatest – of Polish writers. His writing, political activism and legacy make him an important national figure.
January 3, 1661, in Krakow, the first issue of the first Polish newspaper titled “Merkuriusz Polski Ordynaryjny” was printed. The publisher was an Italian guy, settled in Poland, called Jerome Pinocci.
